Airtime after the data that carries nothing, giving the receiver time to finish processing.

Reading a capture

Airtime spent on nothing at all, and unavoidable. As modulation got denser the decoding got slower, so the transmission has to wait for the receiver — a fixed cost that pushes in the opposite direction from every throughput gain above it.
